Harper Detroit Diesel-Allison is committed to total customer satisfaction. As part of this commitment we maintain a fully equipped, on site training facility complete with factory trained instructors. Through our schedule of training courses for Detroit Diesel and Allison products we can offer dealer and fleet service personnel the opportunity to acquire and enhance their own dedicated service capabilities.

 

General Information
  • All classes are held in the Harper Training Centre at 11 Diesel Drive.
  • All classes run from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
  • Students will receive manuals, and a certificate upon completion of class.
  • Students are requested to dress appropriately for both the in-class session and for the practical portion of the course. Shopcoats are provided.
  • Class size is limited. Early registration is encouraged.
  • Registration is made by sending or faxing the form (see last page) to (416)259-9689.
  • A cheque or Purchase Order Number must accompany the Registration Form. The cheque must be made out for the full fee + GST and made payable to Harper Detroit Diesel-Allison, Training Centre.
  • Those who do not provide the course fee two (2) weeks prior to commencement of the training will not be permitted to attend the course.
  • If a customer elects to cancel, notice must be received at least five days prior to the start of the course.
  • Harper Detroit Diesel-Allison reserves the right to cancel or re-schedule any class.

Custom Training

We can also tailor training on Detroit Diesel and Allison products more closely to your needs by conducting the training at your facility and upon request, tailoring the course content to reflect your specific needs.

DETROIT DIESEL ENGINE COURSES

SERIES 50/60 ENGINE OVERHAUL

DURATION: 5 Days COST: $780.00 + GST
AVAILABLE: January 15-19, February 19-23, March 5-9, April 16-20, May 14-18, June 18-22

OBJECTIVE: To enable service personnel to trouble-shoot and diagnose engine problems, disassemble and reassemble engines correctly, repair and overhaul engine components and carry out the correct tune-up procedure.
 
DESCRIPTION: This course includes classroom instruction and practical hands-on training on live engines. The student receives an in-depth study of the following:

    SERIES 50/60 ENGINE MAINTENANCE & TUNE-UP

    DURATION: 2 Days COST: $395.00 + GST
    AVAILABLE: January 10-11, February 26-27, March 29-30, May 10-11, June 13-14.

    OBJECTIVE: A course designed to give service personnel sufficient information to be able to maintain and tune-up the DDC Series 50/60 engine.
     
    DESCRIPTION: Theory in the classroom and practical on live engines including:

    • Operating principles and general construction
    • Understanding the fuel, air, lube and cooling systems
    • Routine maintenance of these systems
    • Tune-up procedures, cam & injector removal & installation and gear adjustments
    • Mechanical trouble-shooting

    DETROIT DIESEL ELECTRONIC CONTROLS (DDEC)

    DURATION: 4 Days COST: $610.00 + GST
    AVAILABLE: January 23-26, February 13-16, April 2-5, April 30-May 3,

    OBJECTIVE: To provide the necessary skills to service the DDEC (III & IV) components.
     
    DESCRIPTION: This program covers the operation and installation of the DDEC system components. The course includes basic electricity orientation, instruction on the electronic components, terminal and connector installation and repairs, sensor adjustment, and practical trouble-shooting procedures.

    ALLISON AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION COURSES

    WORLD TRANSMISSION SERVICE

    This program provides an understanding of the World Transmission operation, construction, service requirements, installation guidelines and trouble-shooting procedures. Classroom topics include torque converter operation, power flows, clutches, retarder operation, vehicle interface, electronic and hydraulic control systems, and preventive maintenance. Hands-on exercises cover volt/ohm meter use, basic electrical circuits, connector repair, disassembly and reassembly of a transmission to the modular level, and Pro-Link® diagnostic tool basics (does not include reprogramming).

    These programs provide a thorough understanding of transmission overhaul. The Service Manual and Parts Catalog are used to disassemble, qualify parts for reuse, and reassemble the transmission.     WT PRO-LINK® SERVICE TRAINING

    This three day training program provides an understanding of the operation of the Pro-Link® diagnostic tool used with the Allison WTEC II and III electronic control. Understanding data lists, ECU identification, troubleshooting codes, clutch test, snap-shot, reprogramming selected input/output packages and variable parameters, are just a few of the subjects covered. Upon completion of the course, students are awarded a certificate that allows the purchase of the reprogramming capable components. The student should have a thorough understand of WTEC II and III components, operating principles, and interface before enrolling in this program. The course is presented in three sections: Electronic control Operating Principles, Vehicle Interface, and "Using" the Pro-Link®.

    To enable service personnel to diagnose transmission problems, remove and install the transmission and perform routine service procedures.

    The course covers general operating principles, maintenance, trouble-shooting, removal and installation techniques of the transmission, checks and adjustments.

    To provide Service Technicians with the information required to properly perform Maintenance Dealer Service procedures on the Allison World Transmissions.
